We also have many attorneys that do not want to give us an email.  In those cases, we have to put something in that field since it's required so we use a generic one for everyone.  If this is changed, it's going to cause issues for us.

Thanks for your feedback. It would be an optional feature you would not be required to use.

You used to require that the field not be left blank and we had to fill it with a fake email address. Fortunately, that requirement was eventually changed. I can't force each member to have a unique address. If this is added, you need to make certain that our organization has the option to turn it off.

Thanks for your feedback. If we did add this feature to the software, it would be an optional feature. You'd have the ability to leave it off for your site.

We already require this of our membership, so probably not the best resource for your question. If we didn't have it set up this way already (just by practice), we WOULD want that option.

Would you be able to share how you enforce this? For example, do you have cases where members forget their password or that they even have an account, and then register a duplicate account under the same email address? We have not found ways to stop this, and it ends up creating a lot of manual work to merge the accounts.

To answer Carson's question, as a YM partner, we work with a lot of clients that struggle with duplicate account creation as mentioned above. They would LOVE to be able to enforce this. We also have clients who use master-subs and need to have duplicates, so this feature being optional to turn on would be the way to go. Those who can use it will be saved from the headaches of constant data cleanup work, and be well-positioned integrate with other applications that already require unique email addresses.

If we'd be able to turn it on by member type, it would be great (example: Staff/Admin accounts would have it turned off, whilst Member accounts would have it turned on). It would also be great if it would throw a message up to a Member about the email address "An account for xyz email already exists." or something.

Glad to see that this would be an optional feature if added. Due to master-sub setup, we couldn't do away with duplicate email addresses entirely. That said, we could make use of this feature as described by M. Crabb above, for specific member types.

We would benefit from a feature like this to prevent duplicate records, however, I think offering it as feature that can be enabled or disabled is the best approach so each association can decide on their own if it's a feature suited to them. An additional point: Our organization would especially appreciate this feature extending into event registration as well. For our larger conferences, we often find one admin will register multiple people but not always provide unique email addresses for each registrant, making it very difficult to ensure that event announcements and post-event surveys reach the intended participants. Having a way in event registration for an admin to register unique attendees but also provide their information as a point of contact for billing is where we're trying to get in our setup. Thanks!

Hi Courtney, thanks for your feedback here. Regarding your additional point: this setting already exists within event setup today. When you are creating a new event or editing an existing one, go to the "registration" settings on the left. Then within the section called "Configure Registration Options" there is a setting called "Require unique email address."

When you have this option set to "Yes," then it will enforce that all email addresses taken in for that event's registration form are unique. On the payment form at the end, however, the person completing the reg or doing the multiple reg at once can use their email address again or change the email address to whatever they want when paying.

I attached an image of this setting for your reference.

This would not work because of the duplication required for people who are admins of the organizational master account and also individuals themselves. We also have to use the "fake email" from time to time as another member described above.

Since some of our members are on the Master and a subaccount, I would not like them to utilize two different emails.
