Directory Search Results: Privacy Settings on Built in Profile Fields

I am hoping I'm in the right place for this. I am working on setting up our directory searches and I am struggling to see the logic in the profile field visibility configuration. I am hoping these changes can be made in a near future product release...

For directory search results you have a couple options for set-up as I understand. First you can of course configure the search and results in the Directory Search Results. Then you can set the privacy of custom member type fields. However, I realized in setting up my search that the system will still automatically show members personal address information (despite having - I thought - set it to only show professional). I not only set up the directory search results this way (I thought) but also set the primary contract type in Member Type to "professional" instead of "Personal". Still the personal information shows in the search results. I find it highly illogical that I cannot set the built in profile fields individual to either appear in search results or not as a default. From what I understand after much research and the daily Q&A session, to make the personal profile fields not appear I would need to:

Export all my members and then re-import them with with their personal address information identified as being hidden.

I would then need to repeat this step once a week or so to catch new members who are joining daily so their personal information does not show in search results!

Many of my members are not technologically savvy and asking them to individually update this isn't realistic. Nor do I want to manually edit their profile or export-import week by week. I am truly surprised that we cannot set visibility in search results for built in profile fields! I was told that we can remove the visibility of profile fields, but it would remove their visibility from the Member Type entirely and then they wouldn't appear in registration and renewal forms, so unfortunately that isn't an option.

For now I'll go the import-export route because my have to have the member search functionality and no one wants their home address and phone number shared with our entire membership. We plan to implement specialized searches for individuals who complete special certifications, but without being able to hide their personal information with ease that's not really a possibility.

I hope you can come up with a fix for this! In general I think the directory search system needs a bit of an overhaul. I have more thoughts on it, but this is my most immediate need here.

Leah,

Thanks for the feedback and this is definitely the right place.

I have looking at this request with my teammates and we are thinking about where to place such an option within Member Type setup so the admin can choose to visibility setting for built-in profile fields.

I wanted you to know that we received your request and if you could check back later or subscribe to this Forum I will be updating it with some potential UI mockups and would love to get your feedback.

Where does it make sense to place the Profile Field visibility options

I wanted to put them at the top along with the current Member Profile Visibility setting but once I added it I saw that we need to also update the text that we currently display next to each radio button.

If I choose Members Only as the Member Profile Visibility setting but I choose to set the profile fields for Personal to Private how would we relay that in the UI?  Then I decided to change the label of the first setting to Member Visibility.  This setting determines who can see me and when I say 'see me' I am referring to me as a complete entity, a member.

The next field could be Member Profile Field Visibility and relate only to how the profile fields are displayed.

Currently, we use the Member Profile Visibility setting as both who can 'see me' and if my profile fields are visible as well.  From what i gather we need a way to separate these so they can be a different visibility levels. Right?

Mockup of a potential update to member type setting.. Thoughts?

Yes I think something like this would work well! Nice to see that you guys are so responsive to these requests. At present the "label visibility" field that you can turn off and on in that area you are working within I found really confusing. I originally thought the current field did what you are now suggesting, but it only turns the label field headers on and off. That's an ok feature, but not particularly useful really.

Having an option where you suggest and as you have laid it out seems logical to me. Alternatively, if there was (and perhaps this is to complex to make as an easy fix) an option within the Profile Fields configuration that would work well and I think be logical for many YM users. If I was looking, that would be the first place I go. (see attached image)

Another alternative (and I'll stop soon) if to somehow make the "Profile Data Visibility" section under the "Directory and CRM" more robust and have it be a multi-select button. I did eventually find that feature after talking to three or four people (so actually it doesn't seem to be well known?) but found that it's hard to know which ones you've already selected and changed the visibility to. A list where you can click either on or off next to each profile field you have enabled would be a good solutions as well. (See attached image)

So was anything ever done on this? It was many years ago and I'm not finding how I can hide personal information from the front-end directory search.
