I just found this thread, and I was wondering if this is still in the works because it would be greatly beneficial for on-site registration. It would also meet today's expectations and be a positive experience for both our attendees and us.

Agreed! This was from years ago and still nothing! On-Site event registration with YM is a pain due to this.
