Expiration Date on Dues Invoices

Wondering if anyone has a solution for this problem:

  1. As everyone probably knows, expiration date is only reset when an invoice is closed (usually, because payment is received).
  2. We allow members to renew their dues, get an invoice, and then pay subsequently.
  3. This means that when a member renews and hasn't yet paid, the @@membership_exp_date@@ macro on the invoice shows their current expiration date, not the date associated with the new dues invoice.

Upshot is that I either:

  1. Use the macro, which leads to confusion among members ("Hey, I just renewed for the new year! Why does the invoice say it's expired?")
  2. Don't use the macro, and just use text with next year's expiration date, which causes a different set of confusion).

Hi Tom,

At the end of the invoicing period could you do a bulk update on the expiry date so that all members have the new expiry date.

It would mean however that once a member paid the membership moves on a year and you would need to revert the expiry date back which is a pain.

Cheryl.

Hi Tom, it might make the most sense to add a note to your Invoice Template to state that the Expiration Date will advance 1yr once they have actually paid their invoice. That way it doesn't cause confusion for members who have already paid their invoices or past invoices that would have reflected previous membership years.

Thank you both. Chelsea, I think that may be the best option for now. It's still a bit awkward.
